About

Hi! I'm Emily Dragoman; designer, innovator, and creator through and through. As the founder of Movement Rooms Inc. I've spent the last several years designing and building spaces in homes across Canada that inspire movement, active play, family connection, and healthy living.

I began my design and woodworking journey at the age of 15 alongside my father, a world-class piano-builder, in our home-workshop. For years I watched, learned, and experimented with carpentry and design and fell in love with it. I later spent 12+ years studying and working in healthcare, absorbing all I could about health and wellbeing.

In 2018, after becoming single parent to my two incredible little boys, I became determined to bring more joy and play into our home during those challenging days, so I built my first active play space in the basement and the result was far more transformative than I could have imagined. This difficult yet empowering experience reignited my passion for design and inspired me to pour all of my 20+ years of health knowledge and design experience into launching my dream business, Movement Rooms Inc.; a design & build company that focuses on family wellbeing, active play, and beautiful woodworking.

My ultimate vision is to transform the way modern families use their homes and bring more connection and play into every day.

Why?

Because families are the foundation of a community. If we can strengthen the family unit, if we can help our youngest members learn to regulate and connect deeply, we can slowly but surely build stronger communities filled with compassionate, resilient, and healthy little humans.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do you operate?

We currently design and build custom spaces in and around the Greater Toronto Area (Canada). If you live outside of the GTA but within Canada we would be happy to work with you on an e-design and work remotely with your local builder to execute the installation.

How much does a Movement Room cost?

The price of a custom Movement Room really depends on how much space you have and what elements you want to include. The average custom space ranges between $5,000-$12,000 but we have wonderful options for almost any price range. Contact us! We would be happy to give you an estimate once we understand your space and your needs.

Pricing for our CALI-bars and our movement kits can be found here.

Is shipping available for your movement equipment?

CALI-bars, rock climbing walls, and accessories are currently available for local pickup at 211 Raleigh Ave. Toronto, ON, or for delivery in and around the GTA only. Shipping is not available at the moment.

How much space do I need for a Movement Room?

It really depends what you want to do in your space but there is no minimum or maximum amount of space required. Whether you have a 4’ blank wall or an entire basement we can create a space that will get you and your family moving.

Generally, the more space kids have to move the more time they spend playing. So, consider clearing out a section of your basement or converting a sun-room, sitting room, guest bedroom, or really any room at all into a movement room!

For an adult fitness space, think about how much space you would need in order to do jumping jacks or yoga; that’s your minimum space. Now consider all you could do if you converted your rarely-used guest bedroom or that dingy man-cave into an elegant fitness studio!

Remember, these spaces are beautiful so they don’t need to be hidden away. You’ll want them on display!

How long does it take to build a Movement Room?

All of our items are made to order and turnaround time is generally between 2-4 weeks.

How young is too young for a kid’s Movement Room?

My recommendation is to start them as young as possible. The early years of a child’s life are the most crucial in their physical and emotional development. Physical activity and free play are important from as early as year one. I’ve seen 18-month-olds climbing our rock walls and swinging from the trapeze! It’s never too early.

Will my kids grow out of their Movement Room?

Not for a very long time! These spaces are built to adapt to your growing children. Interchangeable accessories can be switched out as needed. And with a few tweaks, your play structure can be turned into a teen or adult calisthenics fitness studio.
